Consumer Magazine recently published a report card on how well the NZ computer retailers fared in terms of their advice and support. It turns out all the big names rated very poorly and their services are woeful (Surprise, surprise). Here are some comments from disgrunted customers about their poor performance. Now I know where NOT to buy my next computer and related accessories...
Bond & Bond: "Apathetic, almost uninterested. Didn't want to know about my problems with the computer, and stuffed around when it was just in warranty and then said it was out of warranty."
Dick Smith: "Help, advice & service prior to purchase were good; however, there was a distinct lack of interest after the sale had been made."
Harvey Norman: "Refused to do anything until threatened with Consumer Guarantees Act as the one-year warranty had ended two months earlier. Will never buy from Harvey Norman again."
Noel Leeming: "Very good at selling, poor at any after-sales inquiries or problems. Very hard sell for add-ons like extended insurance."
Warehouse Stationery: "They really didn't want to know about the problem or (as the case may be) did not have the knowledge to give advice. I paid for a three-year extended warranty and ended up getting a private technician to fix the problem."

So have you found a new computer yet?
Unfortunately no...there has been an unexpected event happening so I have to save up some cash...so I have no choice but to send it in for repair...
