For some reasons I find that a lot of my visitors are looking for feijoa recipes. Here's more recipes for my dear readers. Enjoy sampling them...
Feijoa Jam
Ingredients:
2 lbs feijoas, peeled and sliced
1/2 cup water
Juice and zest of one lemon
4 cups white granulated sugar, warmed
Directions:
1) Place feijoas in a jam pan or large, wide saucepan
2) Add water, lemon juice, and zest
3) Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat and cook until fruit is soft about fifteen minutes
4) Add warmed sugar and stir until it dissolves
5) Bring jam to a rapid boil and boil without stirring until the mixture reaches the setting point, about 20 minutes.
6) Pour jam into warmed, sterlized jars, cool and seal
Makes 6 to 8 cups
Feijoa Smoothie
Ingredients:-
2 feijoas
1 1/2 cups milk
1/4 cup vanilla ice cream (you can also use yoghurt)
1 tablespoon honey
Directions:-
1) Cut feijoas in half and scoop out the flesh, put in to blender
2) Add remaining ingredients and blend until frothy
Feijoa Chutneys
Ingredients:-
1.5 kg feijoas
1 kg onions
1/2 cup crystallised ginger
2 cups sultanans
2 cups brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground cloves
3 teaspoons curry powder
2 tablespoons salt
1 litre malt vinegar
Directions:-
1) Peel and chop the feijoas and onions and slice the ginger finely.
2) Combine all ingredients in a large pan and bring to the boil, stirring.
3) Simmer until thick, then pour into jars.
4) Seal when cold.
Feijoa Sorbet
Ingredients:-
3kg feijoas
3 lemons, juiced
350ml sugar syrup
50 ml glucose
Directions:-
1) Place lemon juice in a bowl.
2) Cut the feijoas to half and spoon out the flesh, place in the juice.
3) Whip in the food processor, then pass through a sieve.
4) Add the syrup and glucose.
5) Add a little green food colouring.
6) Pop into an icecream maker and churn into an icecream container to freeze,
7) Then break the frozen feijoa juice into blocks and put back in food processor to whip up
8) When becomes 'fluffy' put it back in the container to freeze.

The recipes sounds nice, but I've never seen or tasted a feijoa before - I had to google! What do they taste like?

It's hard to describe the taste of feijoas. All I can say is the fruit is sweet with a unique taste that is similar to a combination of the following fruits: banana, strawberry, guava, and pineapple. You must give it a try! :)
