A very belated gift...

A couple of days ago, I come across a box perched nicely underneath my disused clothing rack in front of my flat. I had a closer look and it was labelled with NZ Post stickers.

Forgive me for my bitchiness, I just have to add another item to my "NZ Hate List": NZ Post. As a common practice, if those NZ Post bird brains deliver a package and there's no one in the house, they will just dump it right in front of the door and drove away. I mean, come on! How hard is to leave a note in the mailbox to inform the owner to collect the package from the post office? Is lifting a pen to write on the card such a arduous task to do??? Such is the attitude of some people in this country where they have a lot of freedom but absolutely no accountability and zero common sense. X(

So I took it in and left it aside to gather dust because I was too tired to peer what's inside the package. So today due to the lousy weather and after a long afternoon nap, I took a knife and slitted the edges of the package, inside the box is another smaller box with a note from my sibling. When I opened a smaller box, to my surprise, it is a Samsung i617 or glamorously called as "Black Jack II".

I still have the old, worn out but trusty and fully functional Nokia 1100 with me and even though I could not see the characters of the keypads any more, it is still pretty handy to me and I like the simplicity of the features. Many a times I felt so tempted to buy a new phone whenever I walk past the mobile phone shop. The newer models are nice and packed with many features and I narrowed down to a few models which I like namely the iPhone, Okta Touch and HTC Diamond.

The sleek and sophisticated HTC Diamond, the vain and over hyped iPhone and the stylish Okta Touch

But every time after ruminating the idea, I would just turned away without buying anything. To me, a phone is a tool used to make and receive calls. Period. The rest of the features are just nice to have supplementaries but not necessary needed. Besides there are plenty of good reasons of me not wanting to get a new phone:-
  • I am el cheapo because I like to buy something that is value for money.
  • I don't really use email/text messages in phone because I could not bear to squint my eyes to type and read the contents.
  • I do not fancy instant messaging because I hate to type on those minuscule keyboards.
  • Neither do I need to synchronised my Outlook 2007 with tasks, appointments and other crap because I am not a VVIP (read this: Very Very Irritating Person) who is always on the go.
  • I despised the idea of having to read Word documents, Excel spreadsheets and Powerpoint slides on the phone. Why bother bringing work back to your home?
  • I don't really use camera and MP3 player because they are a waste of phone battery.
  • I detest storing photos on the phone because they are so puny to look at.
  • I am not a fan of shiny and sleek surface because my grubby fingers will create smudges all over the phone.
  • I hate to use internet on the phone because the 3G connection is a downright over hyped, exorbitantly price but underperformed technology and I hate to scroll the browser up and down on a small screen.
That's why I put off my plans of buying a new phone until this very moment. If I were to choose a phone, I would like a model which is simple to use, durable, light and comes with bare boned features. To me simplicity and minimalist is my mantra. :)

Of course that does not mean I will not use these new models if given one. /wahaha

Ah, a serious case of iPhone envy! ;)

(yeah, yeah, yeah, I know you say they're crap, but seriously, you'd love it if you had one! :P )

I am Scrooge, remember? It's just too hard to part with my own simoleons to get one myself. If someone else buys one for me, then I would not mind using it... :p
